About
It all began with his parents compact camera, because this childhood fascination quickly grew into a lifelong commitment to photography, eventually leading him to buy his first SLR and dive deeper into the art.
Between 2012 and 2015, Johann took on the role of Editor for the Malta Photographic Society’s magazine, CLICK. Under his leadership, the publication earned two distinguished awards from the Photographic Society of America (PSA) — Best Layout and Best Technical Write‑up, highlighting his editorial skills and dedication.
His involvement with the Malta Photographic Society (MPS) spans far beyond the editor’s desk. Johann spent three years on the main committee and nearly twenty years on the Competitions Sub‑Committee, helping to guide the society’s direction and elevate its standards. From 2015 till 2026, he has been the driving force behind the Ħamrun Local Council’s Capture the Festa competition, serving on both the organizing team and the judging panel. For eleven years — with only the COVID‑19 pause interrupting the streak — he has helped nurture emerging talent and celebrate Malta’s vibrant photographic culture.
Johann’s experience extends well beyond local borders. He has judged numerous international salons and circuits, as well as a wide range of local competitions for the Malta Photographic Society and other private organizations. His expertise, fairness, and consistency have earned him respect within the international photography community.
